News and Newbies for 16 October 2011

This weekend -- and with the help of its originator, Chuck McConvey -- I've continued the legendary Rock-Talk! forum.

Now, this one's also open to all of you who are on Facebook®, Twitter® and all the other ® pages that I don't have names for but know of The Relic's shenanigans.

OCCUPY WALL STREET has brought a mixed bag of folks who are disgusted with ... well, you know the story, right? And it's spread across the nation (in fact, as we've seen in the news over the past few days, the world) in towns and cities that normally don't see protests of this nature (we had one here in Ashland over the weekend. Ahhh, but the Kentucky Wildcats were playing, so all five protesters went home to watch it. Besides, they ran out of hot dogs ...).
But, amongst the protesters in the "Occupy Gainesville (Fla.)" version, Elias McDaniel, Jr. -- son of the late, great Bo Diddley -- was arrested for, as I understand it, "disturbing the peace".
And, ironically, the protest was being held in the ... Bo Diddley Community Center! Fortunately, he and the other protesters were released without ever being booked.

And we're all wishing Bee Gee Robin Gibb a good diagnosis and quick recovery! Robin was hospitalized near his home in Thame, Oxfordshire, England this past Thursday after suffering severe abdominal pains. This is especially hard on him because he's not only had these unexplained pains before, but his twin brother, Maurice (1/3 of the famed trio), died due to a blocked intestine eight years ago.
